However, one must admit that Nintendo's creative bigwigs did an awesome job with the introduction of gaming techs such as touchscreen and mic features. These innovations effectively placed the DS among the pillars of gaming such as Pong, Pac-Man, and online poker. That's why it doesn't come as a surprise to see a deluge of homebrew from independent coders; and with XtenDS, those numbers are bound to rise.

Using easy to learn click-drop actions you can create professional looking games within very little time. You can make games with backgrounds, characters, music and sound effects, and more! And when you've become more experienced, you can use the in-built scripting, which gives you the full flexibility of creating games with XtenDS.

Registration

The Free Edition is meant for those that take their first steps on the path of developing games. It can be used for free but is limited in its functionality. Also it shows that the game is made with XtenDS on the splash screen when running games and will regularly remind you of upgrading the program. When you are using XtenDS regularly you are strongly recommended to upgrade it to the Pro Edition. The Registered Edition contains considerably more functionality and does not display any logos or popup messages. Specifically:

Adbility to edit advanced configuration, such as sprite palet name, PAGfx transparent color, whether the game pauses when the DS Lid closes
The option of higher background quality, i.e. 16Bit instead of EasyBG (256 colors)

A second emulator, in case the first does not work or cannot be found
Your splash screen will not show "XtenDS" and "Invisionsoft.co.uk" on the splash screen
You may set the condition for the splash screen (Stylus, Start, Press A ..) and the screen on which it must display (top or bottom)

Features

Sound

XtenDS lets you play sounds in your projects. A set of over 50 sound effects are already included, and your own music is easy to convert using Audacity or Switch (tutorial here). There is an action to adjust the sound volume.

Backgrounds

Backgrounds are fully supported with the option of Average or High Quality bitmap modes. There are actions to change the background and clear the backgrounds.

Sprites

Sprites can be added using Click and Add methods onto both DS Screens. Then, when XtenDS compiles your project it will transparify them and convert them to 256 colors for you automatically. There are actions for sprites which include move sprite by stylus, by D-Pad, clear sprites, delete sprite, create sprite, Set Sprite XY, actions for dual screen sprites.

Splash Screens

With the latest version of XtenDS you can supply a splash screen and numerous other options for all your projects. Using the Options screen you can set the Splash image, Splash Screen (top or bottom) and continue condition (what must happen to continue the project). Splash screens still follow the High or Average quality rule of course.

XtenDS lets you customize every factor of the IDE including Splash screens, background quality, BG tile mode, Output location, card type and more! Never has XtenDS been more expandable.
